COMMUNITY ORGANIZING Intern/Volunteer

Position Summary:
The Network of Spiritual Progressives (NSP) is seeking  part-time Community Organizing Volunteers/Interns to work on-line to engage members of the Network of Spiritual Progressives in our national strategy build a new bottom line of love and caring in inter-personal, professional, political and civic life.
The Community Organizing Volunteers/Interns will reach out and respond to members and those who desire to become NSP activists, engaging them in professional, topical, regional or demographic community groups which offer a means to connect with others, contribute to advancing their values, and create change.
The Community Organizer  will serve as the organizational contact for newcomers to the national NSP. The Community Organizer will have a key role in implementing a campaign to mobilize people, build public support for NSP’s initiatives, and influence both consciousness and social policy. The CO will also build connections with media to promote the ideas and activities of the NSP.
The Community Organizer  reports to the Executive Director and works as part of a collaborative, committed NSP-Tikkun Team.

Specific talents and gifts or skills needed:

  • Well organized.
  • Sincere passion for the greater good
  • Excellent communication skills and an outgoing and friendly personality.
  • Comfortable with on-line communication. Social media savvy is a plus.
  • Deep understanding of what NSP is about after reading the Spiritual Covenant with America, the ESRA-Environmental and Social Responsibility Amendment to the US Constitution, and the Global Marshall Plan (all on this website).
  • Able to devote at least eight to ten hours a week of your own time.

While we are unable to pay you for this work, we do know that some of our interns (those who have worked with us for at least 9 months) have been able to use their work at Tikkun/NSP as a key element in getting into a top-notch graduate school, professional school or paid job in publishing or politics (though of course we can’t promise that as the outcome). Even more important, many of our interns (those who have worked out of our Berkeley office) have reported that the experience was transformative for them.

Location: Office located a few blocks from the University of California’s beautiful campus in Berkeley, CA; Position can be done on-line from anywhere with computer access if you have good computer skills.
Start Date: Applications accepted until positions are filled. We prefer interns or volunteers who can give at least 9 months at our office in Berkeley, but have sometimes accepted those who can only commit one semester of time (starting in early September or January) or one summer (starting in late May or early June and going till mid August)

CAMPUS ORGANIZER Intern/Volunteer

Position Summary:
The Network of Spiritual Progressives (NSP) is seeking part-time Campus Organizer Volunteers/Interns to help plan and execute an outreach strategy in order to build a youth movement in the NSP. We seek to gain the participation of students in building a new bottom line of love and caring in inter-personal, professional, political and civic life.
The Campus Organizer Volunteer/Intern will create a local college-based chapter of the Network of Spiritual Progressives and help promote the various campaigns of the NSP 1. Money out of Politics and Requiring Corporate Environmental Responsibility through our Environmental and Social Responsibility Amendment to the US Constitution  (check it out at www.tikkun.org/ESRA)  2. Peace instead of militarism and a non-violent path to “Homeland Security” through our Global Marshall Plan (check it out at www.tikkun.org/GMP) 3. Middle East Peace through a strategy of compassion and healing of the PTSD of both sides (read Rabbi Lerner’s book Embracing Israel/Palestine to find a path that is both pro-Israel and pro-Palestine , www.tikkun.org/EIP).

The CO will serve as an outreach coordinator, events planner and organizational contact for youth newcomers to the national NSP.   • College experience with a student org is a plus.
